The Cartlodge Company was founded in 2010. James, our director had come from a building and construction background, specifically working with traditional buildings. James’s career has centralised in traditional trades, initially as an apprentice thatcher, progressing into restoring period thatched properties. Working on these dwellings soon evoked the passion for traditional oak framed buildings, meaning we are experienced with every aspect of a new build, from the initial concept, planning and the first spade in the ground to the finishing touches at the end of the project.
Over the last 15 plus years we have carried out numerous Oak framed buildings ranging from Cartlodges, garden rooms, pergolas, porches, swimming pools, in fact anything Oak related!
We have built in excess of 250 Oak frame structures and each of these projects have been purpose built to satisfy discerning customers throughout the East of England and sometimes beyond, each with their own individual challenges as no two builds are the same.
What this means is there isn’t anything we haven’t encountered at some point as every Oak structure is different.
It has given us a depth of experience to work around any situations that may arise, the only one we haven’t managed to overcome is the good old British weather, which is beyond our control! That said, our only real problems with the weather are freezing temperatures and too much rain.
Not because it might be challenging to work outside in these conditions (we are used to that and love working outdoors) but because freezing temperatures make any bricklaying unstable and too much rain makes groundworks difficult and dangerous.
Once we get beyond this stage of any build, the weather will not have much of an impact on any build.

This starts with the initial concept, helping you design exactly what you want. Some customers have very firm ideas which we will work to, others need help to truly understand what’s possible within their budget and locations. We work with both.
We can aide in submitting planning applications and building regulations so that everything is ready to start once this is granted (should any objections be raised by planners) we do our upmost to appease the authorities and by having a skilled architect that can appeal to the planners better nature! We know what they want to see in any project.
Once you have accepted our quotation, prior any work being started we will produce detailed CAD drawings and images, this will help you visualise what your finished building will look like and confirm that everything is just perfect and ready for the manufacturing process. Our lead time is around 10 – 12 weeks from receipt of deposit.
We will agree a start date and that would only ever change if the weather was truly dreadful.
Due to our experience in managing projects, we are able to schedule the work so that your project flows smoothly and it will have our full attention until completed.
We manage everything during the whole process, from plant machinery, supplier deliveries, storage on site, welfare facilities for our staff, rubbish and waste removal, the list goes on and on.

Sometimes things don’t go to plan, especially true with any building work. If that happens, we promise that if anything goes awry, we will do everything in our power to put it right swiftly and efficiently, whilst still retaining the quality of our product and service, constantly keeping the lines of communication open.
James, our founder and MD will be involved in every step of the process.
